Founded in 1985, the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India — Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Chapter (AROI TN-PY) is the regional chapter of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI), one of India's largest and most distinguished oncology societies. Established in the same year as its inaugural conference, held at the historic Madras Medical College, the chapter has since grown into a vibrant and influential professional body representing radiation oncologists across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Bringing together clinicians, teachers, researchers, medical physicists, and postgraduate trainees under a shared academic and professional platform, AROI TN-PY serves as the collective voice of the radiation oncology community in the region. Over four decades of its existence, the chapter has played a pivotal role in shaping the growth of radiation oncology across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry — nurturing talent, promoting evidence-based practice, and advancing the standards of cancer care delivery.
The chapter has been organising its annual conference, AROICON TN-PY, since 1985 — a flagship academic event that brings together experts from across the country to deliberate on the latest advances in radiation oncology. Recognising the importance of continuous professional development, AROI TN-PY also organises continuing medical education (CME) programs, moderated case discussions, and fellowship opportunities that provide postgraduate trainees with hands-on exposure to high-technology radiotherapy practices.
Through these sustained initiatives, the chapter fosters meaningful collaboration among senior faculty, practicing oncologists, and the next generation of radiation oncologists — strengthening clinical standards, encouraging research, and building a close-knit academic community.
